Empty plate on table

I like to take photo of food. But I seldom do it, because LC-A+ has minimum focus at about 0.8m, so it's not an ideal range to capture food. So I got this empty plate, no food, just plate.

A picture that hits 100 likes

Well, another picture that hit 100 likes. I took this at Bali, actually helped by my friends. Why it looks so dark? Actually I set it as ISO200 for Tungsten ISO64, that's mean about 2 stops under. The day was very bright, hot sunshine, so I set it to ISO200. So what do you think?

Another shot from Natura

Fuji Natura Classica, Lomography ISO 800

Let's check with indoor shot. As usual, this is Lomo 800 film, and NP mode on.

I have to say the Natura has did it's job nicely. Picture is sharp, exposure is nice, saturation is just balance.

I started to fall in love with Natura. Really, I think Natura will be another top camera in my list. Fast focus, accurate focus, closer focus distance, anything about focus, it is hardly to argue about with it's performance. I don't want to have blur picture for priceless moment, the moment that maybe won't be happened again.

Next roll will be Xpro 100. I want to test how the Natura handle ISO 100 film, and how will the cross processed look like. Stay tune.

110 film is back!!

Lomography has launched their 110 film, Lomography Orca 110 B&W Film.

So, what is 110 film?? Normally in the market, you can get the 135 and 120 film. Those 2 are very common film in the market and most of the film cameras are using 135 or 120 film.

110 is a catridge based film format that introduced by Kodak in 1972. This is a miniaturized version of Kodak's earlier 126 film format. Each frame is 13 x 17mm.

Check out the link to know more about the Lomography Orca 110 B&W film.

To Pre-order this film, you can get this at the Lomography Online Store.

So,which camera that using 110 film?  I list down some of them.
  • Minolta 110 Zoom SLR
  • Pentax Auto 110
  • Fujica Pocket 600
  • Yashica Electro 110
  • Rollei A110
  • Kodak Instamatic 40
  • Konica Pocket 400
Just that which camera will Lomography introduce soon? Refurbished old camera? Or fully new designed 110 camera? We will see.

Street view at Jimbaran Bali

Horizon Perfekt, Lomography X-pro Slide 200
Bali's street view is unique.
Small lanes, walkways, small roads, narrow roads,
houses in the lanes,
deep deep in the lanes,
difficult to locate if you really don't know the location.

I love it.
The view, the street, the building,
the architecture, the designs,
everything about it.

Machester City is the Champion of EPL 2011/12!

Manchester City is the Champion!!
YES, they are.
I watched the match last night,
it was decided at the last minutes,
great match,
but I don't really care who will be the champion,
because my favorite CHELSEA do not have the chance.
Chelsea only got 6th place in the table,
actually a disappointing season,
but Chelsea still do have a Champion League Final,
Chelsea need to be the champion!

Congratulation to Manchester City.
But I am Chelsea fan.

Shot from Natura Classica

Finally I got the pictures back from lab. I use lab-scanned this time. Just want to view it quickly, if not, maybe will take long long time.

Fuji Natura Classica, Lomography ISO 800, lab-scanned
Loaded with Lomography Color Negative ISO 800, for sure, I used this because I want to test about the NP (Natural Photo) mode. Only ISO 800 or above can turn on the NP mode.

The situation in the photo, is dull day, no sunshine, cloudy, and dull dull day. NP mode switched on.

Color is great, I love this kind of color. For sure, ISO 800 film won't give you saturated color, it only gives you soft color, which very nice for portrait.

Fuji Natura Classica's focus is sharp, I just can't believe how fast and how accurate the Natura Classica can do. Look at the middle, half press, focused, re-position, full press, snapped. Just as simple as it. Will do more review later.

DX Coded Film

Fuji Natura Classica only accept DX Coded film. What is DX Coded? I don't really know before this, because LC-A+ and Horizon Perfekt don't care about it. Finally I know what is DX coded film.

This is how you read the code. You can see the silver and black at the film cartridge. So, it tells the camera what ISO is it, and how many frames does the film has.

Credit to http://www.oocities.org/yosemite/2131/dx-code.html
Fuji Natura Classica only switch on NP mode (natural photo) for ISO 800 and 1600. So, maybe can use ISO 400 film, and change the black area on the film cartridge, to cheat the camera that it is ISO1600 film. Then tell the lab to push the film for 2 stops. I think it is possible.

Why do so? Because ISO1600 is so expensive!!! which will cost RM35 per roll. I will test about it.

Light meter FREE

I do have a Horizon Perfekt. It is a fully manual camera, which means we need to decide on shutter speed and aperture. So, either you're very familiar with the exposure, or else, to get a correct exposure, you will need a light meter.

YES, buy a light meter, which maybe cost you about RM500, or if you have smart phone, rely on digital this time, download the free light meter. Turn your smart phone to a free light meter.

iPhone do have free light meter. I'm using this. Easy and good, fast and accurate.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pocket-light-meter/id381698089?mt=8

Pick the ISO, 100 if lomography xpro 100, then decide on the aperture or shutter speed, just either one. After you pick one, the other will automatically give you the correct reading.

Click on the area that you want the correct exposure. Just like sunset, click on the sky if you want the sky in correct exposure, the sky will has brilliant color, but you will lost the details on land, which all will be in shadow. If you want to see the details on land, click on land to get the correct exposure.

Get fun with it.

Difference between Lab Scan and Home Scan

How much the different between home scan and lab scan? Let's do some comparison.

Lab scan, yes, just send to lab and they done everything for you.

Home scan, I scan on my own. Using Canon Canoscan 5600F, using software Scangear provided by Canon, mostly using the default setting, only switch on the Unsharp Mask, Reduce Dust and Scratches, Backlight Correction, all set to Medium.

Tested film, Lomography Color Negative 100

Using LC-A+ RL.

Situation: Bright Sunshine, time before sunset.
Lab-scanned
Color look more nature, grass more to green-blue, nature skin tone,
white more correctly shown as white.
Home-scanned
Color more to yellow, grass more to green-yellow, yellow skin tone,
white area more to yellow.
But consider with Bright Sunlight, the home-scanned photo is more direct reflect with the situation, which is yellow in color that time. Probably the lab tweak with the White Balance.

Lab-scanned
Blue sky is not blue, white cloud has been washed out, more contrast green.
Home-scanned
Blue sky in blue, white cloud can be seen, green in yellow-green.
Overall, is not much different between these 2 pictures. Lab-scanned picture, can see the face, which mean is more brighter compare to home-scanned. Blue is in light blue for lab-scanned.

Obviously, the difference between lab and home scan, is about the white balance. ScanGear do not have white balance option, maybe, I don't know where is the option.

Will do more comparison in the future.

Translate Fuji Natura Classica Japanese manual to English

Ok, maybe I write more details about how to translate the manual into English.

I don't understand Japanese. So when I read the Natura manual, it just like "huh? what does it mean?". Some of them can be guess, but some of them are not. Just like why the green light blinking? Why red light? So, manual is important.

Just download the manual in Japanese at Fuji Natura Classica manual (Japanese version). Open the manual in Adobe Acrobat Reader, please make sure that you also download the Japanese language pack. Then open Google Translate. It's time to copy and paste.

On page 9, it tells you why green light and red light. After translate, here is it.
